Palmeiras beat Brazilian rivals Flamengo in extra-time to win the Copa Libertadores for a second successive year.
Substitute Deyverson pounced on an error by Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira to score the winning goal five minutes into extra-time.
The final of South America’s most prestigious tournament took place at the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay on Saturday 27 November 2021.
Raphael Veiga had given the defending champions the lead as early as five minutes with a powerful low drive from 11 yards out.
2019 winners Flamengo had equalised through Gabriel Barbosa 20 minutes time when the Brazilian forward’s effort managed to beat Palmeiras goalkeeper Weverton at his near post.
The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes before Andreas Pereira completely missed the ball, gifting Deyverson a one-on-one which he duly finished.
Palmeiras held on to lift the Copa Libertadores for the third time in their history. Last year they beat fellow Brazilian side Santos 1-0 in the final, and they won the competition for the first time in 1999.
